General Description

This article explains how to install McAfee VirusScan, provided by Purdue, for Mac OS X (Intel Macs) .

Step by Step Instructions

Install McAfee VirusScan for Mactel:
(You must uninstall any previous virus software before installing VirusScan for Mactel.)

  1. Go to the ITaP's Secure Purdue page at http://www.purdue.edu/securePurdue/download/
  2. Login using your Purdue username and password (the same you use for your email).

  3. Under "Select Operation System" select your version of Mac OS X.

  4. Enter "1" for the "Number of machines...", check the box, and click Download Products.
  5. Click Download next to "VirusScan for Mactel". In the New Window, click Download VirusScan x.x.dmg.

  6. Mount the downloaded file by clicking the icon for "VirusScan x.x.dmg" (you might need to rename the file to "VirusScan.dmg").

  7. Click the icon for "VirusScan x.x" mount and click the "VirusScan.pkg" icon.

  8. Follow the steps and install VirusScan for Mactel.

Run VirusScan for Mactel

  1. Go to your applications folder and click the icon for "VirusScan".

  2. Update VirusScan by clicking eUpdate and clicking Start.
  3. Click Scan and Clean and click "Drop items or click here."
  4. Select "Macintosh HD" on the left and then click Scan Location at the bottom to scan all your files.
  5. Click Start to start the scan.

  6. Follow the prompts if a virus is found.

Troubleshooting

VirusScan for Mactel requires Mac OS X version 10.4 (Tiger) or newer and a Mac with an Intel processor.

Make sure you uninstall any previous virus software before installing VirusScan for Mactel.
