General Description

This article describes how to install McAfee Anti-Virus Home Edition.

Step by Step Instructions

Installing McAfee for the first time.

  1. Go to the ITaP's Secure Purdue page at http://www.itap.purdue.edu/security/download.
  2. Login using your Purdue username and password as you would in any lab.
  3. Select Windows XP Home and Professional from the drop down menu.
  4. Enter the number of machines you will be installing McAfee VirusScan on and enter your Purdue e-mail address.
  5. Check the box next to "I agree to the above terms" and click Download products.
  6. Select the download link for VirusScan Home Edition ver. 10.
  7. On the next page click the download button and save the file to your desktop or any other location you will remember.
  8. Double-click on the file and follow the installation wizard.
  9. If you see this message please skip to the upgrade section at the bottom of this article.
  10. Click next to continue the installation.
  11. Fill out the information to participate in the virus map report.
  12. Click on "Scan for Viruses" to check your computer for viruses.
  13. Right click on the Mcafee M icon that is in the bottom left corner of the screen and go to "updates".
  14. Click "check now" for the latest updates.
  15. You will now need to register the product.
  16. Fill out the Information to register. Make sure you enter a valid E-mail address.
  17. You have now completed installing Mcafee Anti-virus Home Edition.

Upgrading McAfee from Enterprise Edition.

  1. Follow steps 1 through 8 above.
  2. When you see this screen click ok.
  3. Click OK on this message to remove the old version of McAfee before installing Home edition.
  4. After it removes the old software you will need to restart your computer.
  5. Click next to continue the installation after restarting.
  6. Return to step 11 above.
